Healthier Cranberry Sauce Recipe
Cranberry sauce is a staple on the Thanksgiving table to top everything from the turkey to the stuffing. Though like many other toppings it is not light on calories and certainly not sugar. A ¼ cup of traditional cranberry sauce is 100-120 calories with 25-30 grams of sugar, which is more than we should have in a normal day. So how can you adjust something as small as the cranberry sauce on the holiday table to maybe help balance out the second piece of dessert you want? Below is a recipe for a lower sugar cranberry sauce with only 32 calories for ¼ cup.
Ingredients
- 12 oz Cranberries
- 1 cup Powdered erythritol
- 3/4 cup Water
- 1 tsp Orange zest (optional; add more if you like more orange flavor)
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine the cranberries, water, erythritol, and orange zest in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a gentle simmer. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the cranberries pop and a sauce forms.
- Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract.
